Thor the God of Thunder

Etching Prints

Based on a bronze figurine of the Norse god, Thor, a find from Azureyri, Iceland, dating to the 9th century, I created my version. The figurine depict Thor grasping his hammer Mjølnir, however I am more interested in reimagining his facial expression and feelings.

Medium: Etching print, magic markers and gauche paint on water color paper

Size: 16” x 18”

The making of the prints

I created various sketches when developing the 3D mythic and Norse sculpture series based on the Thor figurine below. The sketch to the right was used when making make these etching prints.

I traced them on plexiglass by scraping the surface with a ballpoint needle,
and then transferred with ink through a press on watercolor paper. I then colored some with florissant markers, gauche paint
